RESOLVING BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES
Problem solving is a huge part of Equitation Science. All behaviour problems can be retrained. There may be one main issue, or multiple issues. Often behavioural issues are rapidly retrained once confusions in the basic responses have been resolved.
This is not a quick fix training method that diminishes over time. If the handler remains consistent with the new cues, the change in behaviour will last forever.
BACKING, &
RE-BACKING
I offer a unique backing and re-backing service. For owners who would like to be involved in the whole process, and even be the first to sit on their own horse.
Most commonly, horses are sent away to be backed. With this, the owner doesn't know what training their horse is receiving, or understand the cues that the horse has been taught whilst away. This can lead to problems further down the line.
I take horse and owner through the whole backing process together, so they can learn together. The added bonus is the horse gets to remain in their familiar home environment.
EXERCISING, HACKING AND SCHOOLING
Whether you would like your horse exercised for fitness, weight management, schooled to brush up on their responsiveness to the aids, or to teach them something new, I offer ridden services to cover all aspects of riding and training.
LOADING DIFFICULTIES
Whether your horse refuses to step on the ramp, steps off to the side, rears, pulls back, barges, sometimes loads, sometimes doesn't, doesn't load to come home, requires more than one person to load, scrambles whilst travelling, bolts off when the ramp comes down, the list is endless. I retrain all loading problems. The process is broken down into stages, and we work through these methodically, together. This is not a quick fix training method that will deteriorate over time, your horse will load, every time if you maintain the new cues learnt. No more stress, no more worrying if you are going somewhere, I can help.
SHOEING PROBLEMS
Is your horse difficult for the farrier? Whether they refuse to pick their feet up, kick or strike out, fidget, barge, bite or won't keep their feet up, I can retrain all of these behaviours. Make handling safer for everyone involved.
I also retrain fear of needles for the vet, difficulties with worming and a whole host of other issues.
CLIPPING PROBLEMS
Is your horse terrified of the clippers? Are they impossible to clip? Do they barge, bolt, won't let you anywhere near, can't clip their legs, require sedation?
If you've answered yes to any of the above I can help you with this. I will retrain your horse to be comfortable with being clipped, making the whole process safer, and a lot less stressful for everyone involved.
INHAND LESSONS
Whether you want to brush up on some groundwork skills, have a young horse and are looking to educate them using groundwork exercises, or simply want to learn more about Equitation Science, I offer inhand training sessions. These are great for getting to know a new horse, educating a young horse, or keeping focus whilst recovering from a period of injury or time off. The skills are transferable to ridden work too.
RIDDEN LESSONS
Does your horse nap, spook, bolt, rear, buck or spin? Are they 'lazy' 'strong' or stressy? Do they rush into jumps, refuse jumps, won't hack alone?
I cover all disciplines and all levels of rider, so whether your horse won't go forwards off the leg, is terrified of dressage boards, or will not jump into water, I can help to resolve the behaviour, giving a much calmer, happier horse.
GROUNDWORK CLINICS
